Archivist Ron Getty

Welcome to the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede Archives. This is where you will find detailed and specific information of interest to Stampede researchers, historians and the general enthusiast. The facility is open for research, by appointment, year round. For more information about utilizing the archives or helping to build its collections and information files please call Ron Getty, Archivist, at 403.261.0407.

Our holdings include: photographic images, board and committee minutes, annual reports, daily programs, souvenir programs, and a variety of databases that document the people associated with the Stampede, the rodeo and chuck wagon contestants, winners and their prizes and our sponsors. In addition, our holdings include Stampede collectibles such as posters, Stampede Post Office cachets, letterhead stationery, invitations, souvenirs, prize trophies and many other historical items.

The archives mandate is to:
• Collect archival documents, data and artifacts that help to preserve and tell the story of “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.”
• Catalogue and research documents and collectibles that record the Stampede story and contribute to Stampede culture.
• Develop a world-class archival facility that researchers and the public can visit.
• Build and maintain a variety of databases that document the Stampede story. Presently, databases include all rodeo and chuck wagon contestants from 1912 to 1980, the winners of those events from 1912 to present, and the sponsors of and the prizes awarded for the rodeo and chuck wagon events.
• Share our collections and knowledge with others by making our resources and collections available through personal visitation to the archives or through email, telephone and written enquires.
• Cultivate and promote working relationships and the sharing of information with other archives and museums.
• Participate in the ‘Stampede School’ program where students of all ages are given the opportunity to explore our holdings, participate in the documentation of our collections, and discover the agricultural and rodeo legacy of Alberta.
